Modern Day Pogrom in Alexandria Egypt

January 28, 2012 by Leave a Comment

Just as I was sitting down to write a post about the international holocaust day (was yesterday) one of my alerts went red and I red this

Its 2012 and these things are really going on

Like in the good old days this riot just started with a rumor, some Christian had posed with a nude Muslim woman, they say, and that is just about enough to trigger thousands of Gods faithful believers to loot and set fire to shops of another faith, damage property and of course try to go for even yet more damage and get some blood on the floor, because a good old scapegoat can not go un-noticed in todays post revolution Egypt.

The state of affairs for the Coptic Church in Egypt is quickly moving from the occasionally lethal to the seriously dangerous, you got to admire the courage of the ones staying in this country, and hope for a better life for the many who fled to the U.S. as a part of a very silenced transfer of a population out of a country in which they have now become living targets.

One can not but wonder how those who initiated this “revolution” a year ago, many of whom are secular, feel about the changing winds, to see this country and its revolution highjacked but religious fanatics who want to violently forever change the face of Egypt, and to think that the Western world stood and cheered these people…

The Sad Case of Egyptian Self Expression

November 17, 2011 by Leave a Comment

Pornography is a matter of geography is a sentence to explain that social and cultural ideas are limited to geographical areas, however the news of today are not about pornography but art, or at least someone perception of it, and the freedom of expressing oneself.

Aliaa Magda El-Mahdy, an Egyptian young woman, posted a nude photo of herself to her Facebook page, in what some think is a desperate cry for attnetion over the closing fate of the popular revolution that took place in the country a couple of months ago and some believe is just a desperate attempt at self promotion.

These nude photos are not porn, that is for sure, the question on how “arty” they are is not something this blog can handle, simply because art is defined in many cases by just its creator. And the reaction? well, expected as hell, there are no surprises when it comes to the Arab world (in this case Egypt, but lets be honest here it can be any Arab-Muslim country).

So Egypt is outraged at this, one young lady “art” photos, when this country is  on the brink of disaster, internal serious issues and financial difficulties, however the body of a young female just turns everything around, very much like the storm of anger and protest against Israel, it seems that its incredibly easy to divert the Egyptian attention but simply waving Israel and naked females around.

And so sadly, that is exactly what the secular leaders of the revolution wanted out, they wanted a free and democratic state, with liberal rules and ideas and tolerance for different ideas and expressions, and this, unfortunately, looks like is very far from what Egypt is turning out to be.

Why #May27 Really Matters

May 26, 2011 by Leave a Comment

The social media servers are standing ready for tomorrow, as many of freedom lovers around the world. Tomorrow we might see the rebirth of the Egyptian revolution, and with it a renewed sense of dignity and respect for the people who wanted freedom and will not stop until they get it.

See, changing the name of a dictator or tyrant is not that difficult, once you place the old one in jail or hang him or her it is really only a question of time for the next in line to jump in and assume the position, robbing and locking people as they go. This pattern is so imprinted into the Arab Muslim society that it almost seemed like its going to be the same here, but for some reason it is not. The people of Egypt feel that they have done all of that work for nothing, and now they are getting something that is more of the same, or even worst – a paved road leading to the first extreme official Muslim brotherhood branch government.

So check out the social media pages, and do whatever you can to let people know that the people of Egypt want real freedom, that the women of Egypt want respect and change, that the atheists that started this revolution want to be a part of the new Egypt, and not to be locked or murdered, forgotten and abandoned.

From here the only thing I can wish the people of Egypt is that they will win this revolution, that things will really change, the religious fear mongering will not win the day and that they will join us in our call to move humanity forward to progress and leave religion behind us.

Egypt Once Had a Revolution

March 28, 2011 by Leave a Comment

We have been following the hopeful struggle of the people of Egypt for real freedom, democracy and better life, but it sadly seems like this is turning into yet another form of tyranny and lack of any of the traits of democracy. There were early signs of religious parties highkacking the revolution from the people and its true leaders (as we reported on Egypt revolution turns religious about a month and a half ago), but now it looks like this kind of religious leadership is actively taking the streets on force, and the police/army are not stepping in to stop it.

Islam is taking over Eygpt

The worst thing is that some of the people who actually moved the revolution are now being opperssed by the religious parties, atheists are being pushed aside and discredited, erased from the pages of history, and women are told not to expect any change in their personal freedoms or situations, this revolution is no longer for them.

No International Women day in Eygpt

I’m not going to quote the whole artilce, go check out Mellisa Bell’s piece on the Washington Post
