North Korea Is the Worst on the Planet

As Close as you can get to Nazi Germany
As Close as you can get to Nazi Germany

Read todays news and you will be transferred into a different time, although not so long ago but still something most of us think belongs to generations who are no longer with us. Some might be reminded of Nazi Germany, other the peak of Stalin’s evil rule of the USSR, the desperate fear of Romanians from secret police and the mass “disappearance” of thousands in Argentina in the 80s’, but North Korea seems, at least by this recent UN report on its human rights abuse, to top it all, and do this at global solitude.

Almost everyone knows that North Korea is a tough nut to crack, it has its nuclear weapons which every now and again it publicly threatens to make use of, and it is basically cut off from the rest of the world. Its former leader considered as a living god, its decadents turned gods themselves and inherit the country from their dead father.

The focus on the security council on the possible nuclear threat of North Korea’s weapon arsenal has created a situation in which the UN, as most other formal channels, ignore what is actually going on in this country, or at least the reports that manage to find their way to Western ears.

Getting out of North Korea is nearly impossible, the boarder with its much hated neighbor the South Korea is so heavily fortified and filled with land mines that it is impossible to survive the pass, the other boarder with with China, it is a rather large stretch of land that would have its successful travelers land in Chinese hands after they managed to dodge the North Korea army patrols. Those who are brave enough to try this know that if they get caught by the Chinese they  will be returned to North Korea, because the Chinese, not great champions of respecting human rights, do not want to get any trouble over a few (or even many) North Koreans.

And so we get the news from the few, very few, who manage to escape the country and avoid the Chinese, and one can only imagine what a small group of fortunate individuals this makes. The descriptions of the horrors of the country are abundant, from government authorized murders and executions to near slavery conditions to men and pregnant women, the list is long and difficult to digest.

Every now and again when we discuss the crimes of the past, mass murder of people, the abuse of citizens by their governments and human rights abuses some good people ask themselves what would they do if they were living at the time these things took place, well this one is not a story or distant history – this is going on right now, and all the peoples of this world share this shame.

Palestinians Heritage Agenda at UNESCO

October 11, 2011 by Leave a Comment

The news today tell the story of the Palestinian authority agenda at UNESCO, mainly of having Bethlehem registered as a “Palestinian heritage site”, this is done to politically gain some points against Israel and promote the participation of the PA into the UN as a member state.

The trouble with this request is the poor treatment the Palestinians give Christians and their sites, something that does not appear much on the news and that is probably considered less sexy is the fact that Christians numbers in the PA have been diminishing very quick, from making 30% of the total population 30-40 years ago to under 9% today (check out this link to learn more). Although there are no official interviews with people planning why the leave their homes it is safe to assume it is the Muslim pressure targeting Christians. And so the town of Bethlehem is today overwhelming Muslim, and is expected to be 99% Muslim in a few years.

The destruction of synagogs in the Gaza area, in the name of nationalism or religion (or both) serves as a painful reminder of how Palestinians treat other religions in their controlled areas. As an atheist I do not mind the destruction of religious sites, however all these are of huge historic importance, to all mankind, and should be preserved as a part of our understanding our past. There is no doubt that religious intolerance starts with the destruction of symbols and monuments of one side and ends with the destruction of human lives.

This Demented World 2011

August 5, 2011 by Leave a Comment

In the last few weeks it has become clear that this world, with all its nations and peoples, is carefully stopping human progress and starting to fall back, with a clear purpose and conscience the leaders of this world do not believe in pushing the envelop, they prefer to deal with the banal and insane instead.

And so, our last superpower, the last nation on earth that could say it has done for humanity and for human progress more than any other in the recent decades, is now shutting down its NASA space program, its universities are seeking – and receiving funding by the millions from oil rich countries in the middle east so they will, at least at pretense, seem to be joining hands in a pro Islam and anti Israel campaign, and that can not solve its increasingly worrying economic problems with substantial resolve.

Our main economic superpower (China) can say nothing about contribution to human progress (maybe some effort for the Olympics can count), and any past contribution is made to look ridiculous by the middle ages approach to human rights and human decency, a country that is an economic giant but has millions working in semi slavery conditions, with poor health systems and an increasing ruthlessness towards any criticism, political or artistically.

A world in which a former superpower (Russia) is putting in all its weight to block a UN move against a country that is now, as these lines are being written, executing dozens of its citizens, where rivers run red from the hundreds of bodies that are filling it, and where tanks and artillery are used against unarmed population in order to have them submit to the rule of the current power.

Instead of reaching out to space, understanding our role in this universe and studying more about the origins of life the USA is now focusing on how to defend itself from enemies who believe that their god wants them to slaughter anyone who does not believe in him/her/it, instead of China getting on with human progress and respect for its citizens it is contemplating the situation of a nuclear Asia, and the terror of Chineese muslims in Xinjiang, and Russia, who has become the new ultra capitalist player in the world is more worried about the payments from Iran for the nuclear installations than the huge gap between rich and poor.

This is the world we all live in, only now it is moving backwards instead of forward, and no one even tries to hide it.

UN Security Council Will Talk About Syria – After Lunch!

June 9, 2011 by Leave a Comment

The United Nations security council, better known as the “UN council Against anything Israel does”, had a pretty hard time discussing one of the member state little small issues, one that involves the slaughter or its citizens by the army. This joke of a council, who serves mostly to please the politics of people with power, or money, or both, needs to decide if it is actually going to say anything about the way the Syrian president has conducted himself and his brothers army in the argument over democracy in this country.

But obviously they can not say anything, because its perfectly alright to murder your own people, even if you do not have oil and power, as long as your powerful friends and business partners protect you. Nice and simple.

The scale of this absurd situation is so huge that even in the Palestinian refugee camp out of Syria’s capitol there was a roar of anger over the way Palestinian kids were sent to their death when asked to cross the boarded into Israel, with the full knowledge that this was a criminal and violent act since this is a enemy line. Now why would a Palestinian go to the Golan to protest over occupied territory when this is Syrian land which was lost when Syria tried to “Push the Jews into the sea”, did not work out too well for them.
