Welcome to the Corner

December 14, 2010 by Leave a Comment

Since we did not officialy start up this site, let me welcome you to the atheism corner, a site that will be dedicated to the idea of non beliefe, or rather “tabula rasa” in terms of subscribing to any non scientific ideas to do with the creation of life and everything to do with life, for all time.

Blank slate is how we wish to look upon things, to observe things, fresh and unbiased, and with the clear understanding that it simply can not be that all the religions that currently are represented in the world (as well as those that have lost and perished) can not be true – they simply reject each other and state clearly that there they are exclusively right about everything.

If you are here to fight in the name of your god or belief please do so with respect so we could have a real conversation, if you are here to observe and discover please try and leave a note with your thoughts, it always helps to know people are thinking.

We are here to make a stand for atheism, for simplifying life on earth and for dealing and solving the things that really do need our attention, for happiness and progress, health and science, for better understanding of who we are and how we want to evolve.

Why Atheism?

December 14, 2010 by Leave a Comment

Our first post is a simple definition of the term “Atheism” by Wikipedia, and I can not think of something more appropriate to start this site with but an entry from (what seems to be) one of the largest collections of information on the internet – and in human history.

Atheism starts to look like the best chance we humans have to save our civilization and own lives, in face of an ever growing of religion born catastrophe. It is a sad thing that as we progress in time we find more ways to destroy more things and do it faster, we are at a point where almost any organization that wants it can get their hands on weapons that could inflict death upon scores of people, and we are at a point in time which many are willing to do just that, oh, its not personal, its just what they believe will hasten the arrival of god’s messenger or the end of time (which to them is, well, a good thing).

So I have decided to share my own thoughts and knowledge with anyone who wants to read them, and hopefully spark a change in some people, or inspire others to do things that will push forward the idea that humanity has had enough of religion and can go on without it, just like kids can enjoy the idea of Santa for their magical childhood years, but they do not want to hold on to that when they are adults, especially if it means that sticking by that belief will significantly increase their chances of misery and agony in life.

Atheism – by Wikipedia

Atheism, in a broad sense, is the rejection of belief in the existence of deities.[1] In a narrower sense, atheism is specifically the position that there are no deities.[2] Most inclusively, atheism is simply the absence of belief that any deities exist.[3] Atheism is contrasted with theism,[4] which in its most general form is the belief that at least one deity exists.[5][6]
The term atheism originated from the Greek ἄθεος (atheos), meaning “without god”, which was applied with a negative connotation to those thought to reject the gods worshipped by the larger society. With the spread of freethought, skeptical inquiry, and subsequent increase in criticism of religion, application of the term narrowed in scope. The first individuals to identify themselves as “atheist” appeared in the 18th century.[7]
Today, about 2.3% of the world’s population describes itself as atheist, while a further 11.9% is described as nonreligious.[8] Between 64% and 65% of Japanese are atheists, agnostics, or do not believe in God.[9] In Europe, the estimated percentage of atheists, agnostics and other nonbelievers in a personal god ranges as low as single digits in Poland, Romania, Cyprus, and some other countries,[10] and up to 85% in Sweden (where 17% identify themselves as atheists), 80% in Denmark, 72% in Norway, and 60% in Finland.[9]
Atheists tend to lean toward skepticism regarding supernatural claims, citing a lack of empirical evidence. Atheists have offered several rationales for not believing in any deity. These include the problem of evil, the argument from inconsistent revelations, and the argument from nonbelief. Other arguments for atheism range from the philosophical to the social to the historical. Although some atheists have adopted secular philosophies,[11][12] there is no one ideology or set of behaviors to which all atheists adhere.[13]
In Western culture, atheists are frequently assumed to be exclusively irreligious or unspiritual.[14] However, atheism also figures in certain religious and spiritual belief systems, such as Buddhism, Hinduism and Jainism. Jainism and some forms of Buddhism do not advocate belief in gods,[15] where as Hinduism holds atheism to be valid, but difficult to follow spiritually.
